After New York City closed the Fresh Kills landfill, it began sending all of its trash out-of-state. A small portion is incinerated, but most of trash is shipped hundreds of miles away to landfills in Pennsylvania, Ohio, etc.
Since 2002, the city’s annual land filling bill has doubled from $600 million to $1.3 billion a year. Nearly 36% of the 2 million tons NYC sends to land fills each year is recyclable.
This documentary unveils the environmental and financial costs New York City is stuck with, when its residents recycle poorly.
