April Fan and Runze Yu Screening at St. Louis International Film Festival: China Today
On Monday, Nov 6 at 5pm, at the Tivoli Theater, both Runze Yu and April Fan will be showing their respective films, The Wives and One Way Home during the Doc Shorts Program: China Today.
The Wives – Xiaonian is trying to get a divorce, Wang is stuck in her marriage because of her two children and Delan stopped her marriage after six months. They all married gay men without knowing it. These women are three of the 16 million Chinese women deceived into marriage by gay men who were trying to please their families and escaping social discrimination by having children.
One Way Home – What is the cost of a free government-sponsored education? Tibetan children, Tashi and YuJu were chosen to study in Mainland China joining thousands of Tibetan kids in the boarding schools for only Tibetans. These boarding schools prepare them to return to Tibet as China’s new elite, but the “first class” education comes with a deep loss of identity, language and culture.
